Fever's Caitlin Clark, Mercury's Satou Sabally won't play in WNBA All-Star Game

The Phoenix Mercury's Satou Sabally was selected as a starter for Caitlin Clark's Team Clark in the WNBA's Indianapolis All-Star Game on July 19.

The Phoenix Mercury's Satou Sabally and Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark will not play in the WNBA's All-Star Game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on July 19.

Phoenix's leading scorer and rebounder (career-high 19.7 points, 7.7 rebounds per game), Sabally, announced on Instagram on July 16 that she's sitting out for her third All-Star appearance because of a right ankle injury.

Sabally was slated to start for Team Clark in the All-Star Game. She and Clark will be replaced by the Atlanta Dream's Brionna Jones and the Washington Mystics' Brittany Sykes.

Sabally missed four straight games for the league's second-place Mercury (15-7).

"Over the past two weeks, I've been working around the clock to rehab my body from injury with two goals in mind: to return to the court with my Mercury sisters as a starter in the All-Star Game," Sabally said. "Unfortunately, my body still needs more time to recover, and I am unable to suit up and play in this weekend's game."

Clark said on X that she'll rest her body from a groin injury that she suffered during Indiana's 85-77 win on July 15. Also, she will not compete in the All-Star Weekend's 3-point contest.

“I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say I can’t participate in the 3-Point Contest or the All-Star Game,” Clark said in a message posted by the sixth-place Fever (12-11). “I have to rest my body. I will still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for all the action, and I’m looking forward to helping (Liberty coach Sandy Brondello) coach our team to a win.”
