This might be it.
This really might be it for LeBron James.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar seems like a timeless wonder, but retirement is coming sooner rather than later.
In fact, the 2025-26 season with the Lakers may be it.
"I think we have to start thinking about this could be his last year in the league," ESPN's Dave McMenamin said Wednesday.
McMenamin then laid out his thinking, which centers around the fact that LeBron didn't even seek out a contract extension with the Lakers, instead just opting-in to his player option for the season ahead.
"Rich Paul told me, 'Yeah there was no extension talk because we didn't ask for an extension, we didn't broach the subject,'" McMenamin said. "... Rich Paul's point to me was that this wasn't a point of tension. It's not something we were pursuing. There's a very limited time remaining in his career."

The flip side of the coin, the one that says LeBron will keep playing, would make the case that he must've just been disenchanted with the Lakers already and didn't want to think about being there past this season.
But that seems unlikely. Bronny, his son, is under contract for two more seasons after this one.
There were reports earlier in the offseason that LeBron's wife Savannah wanted this to be his final season in 2025-26.
Maybe it really will be the last ride for King James.
