Brewers' Sal Frelick has a 'minor' hamstring strain. Could he play against the Dodgers?

Brewers rightfielder Sal Frelick is dealing with a 'minor' hamstring strain. It's unclear if he'll be available this weekend against the Dodgers.

Breathe easy, Milwaukee Brewers fans.

Sal Frelick is going to be OK.

The fan favorite right fielder, who was forced to leave the Brewers' 8-1 victory over the Washington Nationals on July 13, has been diagnosed with a "minor" left hamstring strain, the team said July 16.

Frelick was injured making a sliding catch in foul territory in the third inning and was removed from the game shortly thereafter. He subsequently underwent imaging, and the team is going to see how the 25-year-old responds over the next couple days before deciding how to proceed.

A stint on the injured list is possible if Frelick still isn't feeling great when the Brewers open the unofficial second half of the season July 18 against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. Manager Pat Murphy divulged after Frelick was hurt that he had been having issues with his hamstring in the days leading up to that game.

Even still, the situation sounds much better than it did only a few days earlier, when Murphy spoke based on the limited information that was available at the time.

Blake Perkins, on a minor-league rehab assignment with Class AAA Nashville, is nearing a return to action and could be a possible substitute if Frelick is sidelined. That would likely result in Perkins taking over for Jackson Chourio in center field, and Chourio sliding over to right.

Frelick is in the midst of a career year, setting career highs already with a .294 average, seven home runs and 39 runs batted in with a .758 OPS.

Since being moved into the leadoff spot June 12, he's slashing .313/3/18/.800.
