The Texas Rangers made a decision on Jacob deGrom before a series against the Detroit Tigers.

Right-handed starting pitcher Jacob deGrom is in his 12th major-league season and third as a member of the Texas Rangers.
The 37-year-old veteran originally debuted for the New York Mets in 2014 where he cemented himself as one of the game’s best young talents winning National League Rookie of the Year.
Over nine years in New York, deGrom collected two Cy Young Awards, four All-Star appearances and led the National League in strikeouts in back-to-back seasons from 2019-2020.
As a result of his success as a Met, Texas signed deGrom to a five-year, $185 million contract including a conditional sixth-year club option before the 2023 season.
Unfortunately, the right-handed ace has suffered a multitude of injuries with the Rangers, including undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow to repair a torn UCL in June 2023 that sidelined him for most of the last two seasons.
In 2025, the Rangers have been extremely cautious of his workload and were relieved when he passed on participating in the 2025 All-Star Game.
On Wednesday, the team decided not to have deGrom pitch in the opening series against the Detroit Tigers after the break.

FRI (7:05pm CT)- LHP Patrick Corbin vs. RHP Reese Olson
SAT (6:05) - RHP Kumar Rocker vs. TBD
SUN (6:10) - RHP Nathan Eovaldi vs. LHP Tarik Skubal
When deGrom’s taken the mound this year, he’s shown no signs of slowing down—over 19 starts he owns a 2.32 ERA, a 9–2 record and 113 strikeouts.
Despite deGrom’s elite performances, the Rangers have struggled in 2025—sitting at 48–49 and trailing the last wild-card spot by 3.5 games, a tough year for a group that has high expectations after winning the World Series two seasons ago.
