Is seven years enough for LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers? The 40-year-old future first-ballot Hall of Famer has no intentions of retiring before he takes the floor for what will be an NBA record of 23 seasons played.

However, now that he’s on an expiring contract, some are wondering if a LeBron trade could potentially be in play. Yet, for the many teams eyeing the four-time NBA MVP, it doesn’t sound like a trade is imminent, or even in the Lakers’ thoughts this offseason.

According to The Athletic‘s Dan Woike and Joe Vardon, neither LeBron nor the Lakers have discussed a buyout or trade scenario this offseason.

“In the sections filled with employees from other teams, scouts and executives around the NBA buzzed with speculation about where else James might play, tossing around trade and buyout scenarios that, league and team sources told The Athletic, have never been discussed between James and the Lakers.”

That should effectively put an end to any and all LeBron trade scenarios this offseason. Simply put, if LeBron doesn’t want to go anywhere, then he won’t.

After all, he has too much invested in the Lakers, who boast his son, Bronny James, on the roster. That, along with his and his family’s ties to California, makes it hard to imagine LeBron wanting to play anywhere else.

Of course, if the Lakers somehow fall out of playoff contention early on, then LeBron trade talks could be revisited, but for now, they should be dead as a doorknob.
