Lugo has been one of the better starters in baseball over the past two seasons, finishing second in American League Cy Young voting a year ago. He's returned with another dominant showing during the 2025 campaign, posting a 2.67 ERA and striking out 88 hitters in 101.0 innings.

His strikeout stuff has never been great, but Lugo continues to get outs and limit runs at a very high level.

Despite some of the Dodgers' interest, Sportsnaut doesn't believe he'll end up in Los Angeles, predicting that Lugo will be involved in a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts during Spring training.

“It’s remarkable that the Toronto Blue Jays are leading the AL East this season, considering their pitching issues. At the All-Star Break, Toronto ranked 25th in rotation ERA and 18th in quality starts. Seth Lugo would be a perfect addition to the Blue Jays’ rotation. He has been outstanding this season, consistently limiting hits and keeping runners off base. While his player option for 2026 effectively makes him a half-season rental, this is the caliber of front-line starter Toronto’s front office should go all out for,” they wrote.

It's unfortunate that more teams will be buyers than the Dodgers likely figured would be the case over the past few weeks.

There were even rumors that the Blue Jays could be trading some of their top players to the Dodgers, as they were one of the more disappointing teams in baseball to start the year.

However, the Blue Jays now sit in first place in the American League East and are all but guaranteed to be buyers at the deadline.
