The Chicago Cubs front office already knows what they need to do. From Jed Hoyer's perspective, this is as big of a trade deadline as ever.

If the Cubs don't make the necessary moves to compete for a World Series, there's a very good chance that Hoyer won't have a job next year.

But it remains uncertain what the Cubs plan to do. Many believe they'll go all out and attempt to win it all, looking to please Kyle Tucker and show him they're willing to win as he hits free agency at the end of the year, or the simple fact that this is the best chance the Cubs have had to win a World Series over much of the past decade outside of 2016, when they won it all.

Some have urged them to be aggressive, including New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter, who recently stated that if they want to compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers, they have to sit down and ask if they're good enough to compete with them.

“They score runs, they steal bases, they don’t strike out. They put the ball in play, which is a great recipe for success when you get to the postseason,” Jeter said on the FOX MLB All-Star Game broadcast. “Everyone answers the Cubs are contenders, but you’re going to have to go through the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“If you’re the Chicago Cubs, over the next couple of weeks before the MLB trade deadline, you got to sit and say, ‘are we good enough to beat the Dodgers in the playoffs?’ If you’re not, you got to go out and get something. Even if you think you are, you got to go out and get something. The Chicago Cubs are a fun team to watch, and they’re a tough team to deal with.”

It's fair to question if any team in Major League Baseball is good enough to beat a healthy Dodgers team in a series. Even if the Cubs make blockbuster moves at the deadline, there's no guarantee they'll have a chance to beat Los Angeles.

It's also baseball, so it's important to note that the Dodgers aren't exactly unbeatable, either.

However, Jeter's remarks are more than fair and will hopefully be taken into consideration by the front office.
