Kyle Schwarber is the Philadelphia Phillies second All-Star Game MVP since Johnny Callison in 1964, and becomes the first non-pitcher to go hitless and win MVP.
Kyle Schwarber is Phillies' First All-Star Game MVP Since Johnny Callison in 1964 originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
This year, Kyle Schwarber was the only Philadelphia Phillies representative at the All-Star Game. After the tie game through nine innings, instead of extras, the All-Stars would compete in a Home Run Derby swing-off.
Schwarber was second in line for the NL, and he hit three home runs, leading the NL to the All-Star win. His performance earned him the All-Star Game MVP, which helped set two pieces of Phillies and MLB history.
As John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia mentioned, Schwarber's MVP nod was the second time a Phillies player won the ASG MVP. The last time? Johnny Callison in 1964, who hit a three-run walk-off home run in the ninth inning.

It's not the same feat, but Callison and Schwarber earned such an honor after hitting home runs. They are both All-Star Game MVPs, but their box scores will look different.
Callison's three-run shot will be in his, but Schwarber, with his three home runs coming in the swing-off, won't have them in his. His final box score will read that he went 0-2 with a walk, no runs scored, and no RBIs.
Looking back on the 2025 All-Star Game MVP in a few years will be strange. It's the first time a swing-off was ever used in a game, and no statistic shows who did what in the swing-off.
It won't go down in his stat sheet, but Schwarber hit three clutch home runs to bring the NL back from down 3-1, giving them the lead, and eventually the win.
OptaSTATS on X mentioned that Schwarber is the first player in MLB history to go hitless in the game, who's not a pitcher, to go on to win the All-Star Game MVP.

His heroics came in the swing-off. He hit three home runs to clinch the NL win, and while he deserved the MVP, it won't show up on his stat sheet.
During his 2025 All-Star Game appearance, Schwarber set MLB and Phillies history. He's the first to win the MVP award without getting a hit for a player who isn't a pitcher, and is also the second Phillies player to win the All-Star Game MVP since 1964.
