The New York Knicks have had some depth issues in recent years, but one former star could help them change that.

This offseason, the Knicks have found a new head coach and added some potentially helpful pieces in free agency. With a core that has already made it to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Knicks are in a great position going into next season.

While they have made some strides over the past few years to become a contender, the Knicks still haven’t reached the mountaintop yet. In today’s NBA, having plenty of players to plug into different situations can be key to winning on the biggest stage, and the Knicks’ latest target could help with that.

According to a recent report from NBA insider Ian Begley, the Knicks have been in contact with Ben Simmons. Looking for his next NBA home, Simmons could be a seamless fit in New York.

Known best for his defense and playmaking, his ideal version on the Knicks could simply be playing as a 6-foot-10 Josh Hart. Of course, Simmons’ career has been on a rough path over the past few years.

After his infamous performance against the Atlanta Hawks in the 2021 playoffs, Simmons has battled injuries, including some severe back issues. After an underwhelming stint with the Brooklyn Nets, Simmons finished last season as a solid contributor off the bench for the LA Clippers.

At this point of his career, Simmons isn’t going to give the same production that earned him three All-Star selections in Philadelphia. Still, if he can show flashes of his All-Star form and be a consistent defender, Simmons has a real shot to contribute for a contender like the Knicks.
