Mavericks get bad news on potential LeBron trade

Another team has entered the mix of teams reported to have interest in the superstar.

LeBron James

The possibility of the Dallas Mavericks ending up trading for LeBron James just went down.

Over the weekend, NBA insider Brandon Robinson reported that four teams were interested in trading for the Lakers superstar: the Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers.

However, a fifth team has now emerged with interest in trading for James.

"I don't know if anyone's really mentioned it, but there's like a 'Heat reunion' trade that kinda actually makes some sense for both sides," Zach Lowe said on his latest podcast. "To be clear, I don't think they've talked about it, but if we're just spitballing."

"They have salaries attached to decent players. They have a young, rim-running center that Luka can grow with in Kel'el Ware. And they are a place where LeBron has been and knows," Lowe added. "And there's a certain romanticism to that. Herro, plus LeBron, plus Bam, I think they can still aggregate."

This summer, James opted into his $52.6 million player option for the 2025–26 season with the Lakers. Lowe still expects LeBron to stay in Los Angeles for now. The famous NBA analyst suggested that both sides should have a cooling-off period, but he is not closing any doors because this is a "strange situation."

With James expected to stay as a Laker for at least this season, it seems that the door is at least starting to close on the Mavericks trading for him. With another team now in the mix of rumors, it does not look like Dallas will be able to get LeBron.
