Jasper Schendelaar saw his move to Sparta Rotterdam fall through, but he hasn’t ruled out a transfer this summer. The PEC Zwolle goalkeeper spoke with ESPN.

“There was certainly some discussion going on, but in the end, it was off the table,” Schendelaar replies when asked about Sparta’s interest, where he was considered a successor to the PSV-bound Nick Olij. “I’m at PEC and I’m happy to still be here.”

The goalkeeper doesn’t know whether a transfer to Sparta is definitively off the table. “I haven’t heard anything about it, but I’ve spoken to PEC Zwolle and I’m still a player at PEC Zwolle,” Schendelaar continues with a smile.

“I have ambitions too, and the club knows that. I’ll just have to see what comes my way; I think that’s the most important thing. Then I’ll make a choice that feels right for me. PEC Zwolle has to like it too, of course, but right now I’m just focusing on PEC.”

For Schendelaar, the prospect of playing time is a key factor in any potential next move, although he wouldn’t be averse to a role as a backup goalkeeper at a major club either. “If that opportunity comes, I’m up for it.”
