Barcelona’s efforts to sign Luis Diaz this summer appear to have dissipated in recent days as the club slowly learn of the cost of the operation.

Recent reports indicate the Catalans have already been priced out of a move and are reportedly looking at other options in the market.

However, Barcelona’s pursuit of Luis Diaz is not completely dead in the water yet and may depend on one key factor.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Rodrygo to be key

According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool’s serious interest in Real Madrid forward Rodrygo could end up playing into Barcelona’s hands.

The Premier League giants are keen on the Brazilian to bolster their attack under Arne Slot, even after the arrival of Florian Wirtz.

With Rodrygo no longer a guaranteed starter under Xabi Alonso and having played just 92 minutes across three Club World Cup games, the chances of a summer exit are growing.

This could be crucial for Barcelona, who have made Luis Diaz their top target to reinforce the left flank.

The Colombian has already expressed his willingness to join Barça and is reportedly giving priority to the Catalans over clubs like Bayern Munich.

Diaz, 28, is seeking a significant pay rise and more recognition within the Liverpool squad, and with his contract running until 2027, the Reds are open to a sale, but only for the right price.

If Liverpool go all-in for Rodrygo, the sale of Diaz could become necessary to balance their books after spending heavily on the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez.

Barcelona are hoping to take advantage of that situation and secure a deal for Diaz, ideally close to the €62 million they had earmarked for Nico Williams earlier this summer.
