Barcelona outcast likely to have his contract terminated as La Liga club eye free signing

Barcelona are planning to meet with Oriol Romeu soon to discuss his future at the club. 

In fact, according to reports from MARCA, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is expected to inform the veteran midfielder that he does not fit into his plans for the upcoming season.

At the moment, no club has come forward with an offer to buy Romeu. This makes his situation tricky because Barcelona would prefer to sell him, but the market is not responding. 

Contract termination the likely solution

As things stand, the most likely solution is for the club and the player to agree on a contract termination. In this case, Barcelona would pay Romeu part of the remaining salary on his deal, which is set to expire in 2025.

Girona are keeping a close eye on the situation. They are interested in signing Romeu but are not willing to pay a transfer fee.

They are waiting patiently to see how the talks between Barcelona and Romeu end before making any official move.

Contract talks and salary issues

Romeu’s contract has one year left, and the main issue now is about the money he is owed for the upcoming season. Barcelona are looking to cut costs, so they do not plan to renew his contract or keep him on the wage bill. 

The 33-year-old midfielder must decide whether he is willing to give up part of his salary to make the separation easier for both sides.

Meanwhile, Girona coach Michel is eager to bring Romeu back for another season. The midfielder is already aware of Girona’s interest, but first, the situation with Barcelona needs to be sorted. 

All parties hope to resolve the matter before Barcelona fly out for their pre-season tour of Asia.
