Spurs star Victor Wembanyama may not be a fan of potential Giannis Antetokounmpo deal

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama shares his thoughts on a potential move for two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The San Antonio Spurs have been linked to a trio of former NBA Finals MVP's throughout the offseason. While Kevin Durant has since been moved to the Houston Rockets, the Spurs could still attempt to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo or Jaylen Brown.

Although the draft has already passed, San Antonio remains primed for a blockbuster deal as they have plenty of young assets. A move for Antetokounmpo could kickstart their window to contend for a title, however, Victor Wembanyama may not be in favor of a potential deal.

The Spurs center recently spoke with Maxime Aubin, where he voiced his concern with San Antonio making an all-in move this summer.

"Breaking up a young core for a single player rarely works," Spurs center Victor Wembanyama stated. "I want the Spurs to be a balanced team, they’ve been masters of that in that past.

San Antonio made a big-time move for De'Aaron Fox ahead of the trade deadline, however, they were able to hold on to their key assets. It appears that their star center is in favor of building around the current core rather than attempting to make a move for immediate success.

In addition to Wembanyama and Fox, the Spurs have 2024-25 Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle. They also drafted Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant in the 2025 NBA Draft.

While the one-time All-Star appears ready for ascension into superstar status, he turned 21 years old earlier this year -- potentially giving the Spurs a long window for contention. They are likely multiple years away from true contention, however, once their core reaches their prime, San Antonio figures to be a perennial title threat.
