One of LeBron James' former teammates floated the idea of him going back to one of his former teams.

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers are in a bit of a staring contest at the moment. James has opted in for the 2025-26 season, but the Lakers did not offer him an extension, which opens the door for him to enter free agency for the first time since 2018.
It also opens the door for James to request a trade, something he's never done before in the 22 years he's played in the NBA, but he has bolted from situations in the past, though all have been from free agency.
If this situation moves towards a trade, there will likely be plenty of suitors vying for James' services because, even at 40 years old, James has made an All-Star team and an All-NBA second team.
A potentially interested suitor could be one of his former teams. James' former teammate, Udonis Haslem, strongly insinuated on NBA Today (in a clip aggregated by Oh No He Didn't) that if James wanted to, the Miami Heat would welcome him back with open arms.
"If LeBron James wants to put himself in a championship situation, then there has to be an opportunity that he needs to look for," Haslem said. "I do know a place where he is welcomed, and he will always be welcomed. Just to put that out there."

Haslem and James played together in Miami from 2010 to 2014, winning two titles and making four NBA Finals appearances. James didn't have the most pleasant exit from Miami when he left in 2014, but he also didn't have the most pleasant exit from Cleveland in 2010, and they still welcomed him back four years later.
