The 2025 MLB All-Star break is officially here, and the Toronto Blue Jays are in a great spot. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games and own a two-game lead over the New York Yankees for the AL East lead. Despite a rough patch earlier in the season, Toronto is establishing themselves as a legitimate threat.

Over halfway through the regular season, the Detroit Tigers and Houston Astros are the only two AL teams to have a better record than the Blue Jays. However, there is still a lot of baseball left, and it is too soon for the team to celebrate.

With the trade deadline just a few weeks away, the Blue Jays may be a team to keep an eye on as they look to end the season on a high note. And, with the trade deadline approaching, there is one specific player they may pursue.

Even with all their strengths, the Blue Jays are far from a flawless team. More specifically, their pitching staff has been rocky and inconsistent all season long. Much of this has to do with players getting injured or making their return, but it is still a problem they must address, and that might happen ahead of the trade deadline.

There are a few different options for Toronto the rest of the way. However, as it stands, it seems that they could be in the market for Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen (h/t Bob Nightengale of USA Today).

According to Nightengale, Arizona is making Gallen available for trade, and the Blue Jays have expressed interest in him.

"GMs believe that the Toronto Blue Jays could be as aggressive as any team in baseball at the deadline, believing this could be their best chance to return to the World Series since 1993," Nightengale wrote. "The Blue Jays are looking for a front-line pitcher, and have shown interest in Gallen."

After earning Cy Young votes in three of the last five seasons, Gallen has had a bit of a down year so far this season. In 20 starts, the 29-year-old has a 5.40 ERA, a 1.374 WHIP, and a 2.44 SO/BB ratio. Still, he could provide a big boost for the Blue Jays as they look to remain in contention, and this is a storyline to follow for the rest of the month.
