Before I had the aspiration of becoming a reporter for the Golden Knights, I was once a young girl who grew up with this team—falling in love with the games, the practices, and the players who made it all special.
At Saturday’s Battle for Vegas charity event, I got to step back into that role, experiencing the night not as a reporter, but as a fan. Sitting among our incredible community and the young fans who reminded me so much of myself not too long ago, I saw just how special this organization continues to be.
Now in its sixth year, the softball event continues to bring joy to hockey and football fans alike, offering a dose of excitement during the off-season. Four fan favorites, also known as the Original Misfits, stepped up to the plate this year: Deryk Engelland, Reilly Smith, Ryan Reaves, and James Neal. And judging by the cheers, fans were more than happy to welcome them home like they never left. Team captain Jack Eichel was joined by Logan Thompson, Cole Schwindt, former MLB player Terrence Long, and former Vegas Viva and softball standout Savannah Horvath.
While the Knights came up short against Team Bowers, the night was still filled with joy and unforgettable moments. Fans were treated to a special appearance by MLB legend Reggie Jackson, who threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Players mingled with the crowd, signing autographs and sharing laughs, their smiles matching those of the fans. The Nellis Air Force Thunderbirds delivered a stunning flyover.
Savannah Horvath proudly represented women in sports at the plate, and Reilly Smith’s little ones added their own charm to the evening with a few appearances on the field. All of this reminding everyone that events like these bring families together, not just for the fans, but for the players as well. The night concluded with a dazzling fireworks show, perfectly wrapping up the festivities.
It’s a 29-26 win for Team Bowers at the 2025 @battleforvegas, but the real winner is the Las Vegas community! 🤗

The biggest takeaway for everyone in the stadium was that this event raised $155,000 for the Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, Make-A-Wish Nevada, Best Buddies, Assisting Lives in Las Vegas, and the Tyler Robinson Foundation.
