Golden Knights' Jack Eichel gets 8-year contract update in pursuit of record deal after Marner move

Not a bad time to be Jack Eichel.

The opening of NHL free agency also comes with it another key point on the league calendar.

Certain players become eligible for max-length extensions. And for the Las Vegas Golden Knights, Jack Eichel fits the bill.

As of Tuesday, Eichel can now sign an eight-year extension with Vegas.

Golden Knights beat reporter Danny Webster shared the latest on X:

"Jack Eichel is now eligible for an 8-year contract extension to make him the highest-paid player in Golden Knights history. Might not happen today, but both sides obviously want to get it done."

That's an exciting bit of news for a Golden Knights fan base that is already celebrating the sign-and-trade acquisition of superstar two-way forward Mitch Marner from Toronto.

Eichel is one of the best moves in the history of the Vegas franchise. His acquisition from Buffalo helped lead to a Stanley Cup.

The superstar center has now spent four seasons in Vegas. Across 241 games, he has 100 goals and 153 assists for the Golden Knights.

And by all indications, Eichel will get the chance to add to those stats for years and years to come.
