Saugerties High School grad Ethan Conrad drafted 17th overall by the Chicago Cubs

Saugerties High School grad Ethan Conrad selected by the Chicago Cubs in first round of the Major League Baseball draft.

Ethan Conrad, a Saugerties High School graduate and former Marist University baseball standout, was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft on Sunday. Conrad also played two seasons with the Saugerties Stallions summer league.

Conrad, a junior at Wake Forest University, was selected with the 17th overall pick. In a season shortened by injury, Conrad played 21 games for the Demon Deacons, batting .372, slugging .744, collecting 29 hits, which includes eight doubles and seven homers.

Conrad played his first two collegiate seasons for Marist. He batted .320 in 48 games in 2023 and batted .389 in 55 games in 2024.
