While the conversation has quieted down over the past year-plus, some football fans and other sports observers are still fascinated by the sign-stealing scandal that rocked the Michigan Wolverines. Of course, former staff member Conor Stalions was at the forefront of those allegations, and now he’s speaking out about some of the finer details of the entire ordeal.

According to Stalions, the Michigan football team “knew almost every” one of their opponents’ signals in a total of seven games during his tenure with the Wolverines. Those games were as follows:

  • Michigan vs Michigan State (2021 + 2022)
  • Michigan vs Penn State (2022)
  • Michigan vs Ohio State (2022)
  • Michigan vs TCU (2022)
  • Michigan vs Georgia (2021)
  • Michigan vs Wisconsin (2021)

For those keeping track, Michigan won four of those games, Stalions claims the team simply didn’t tackle well enough in three of their losses, and was simply overmatched in their loss to Georgia in 2021.

“There were 7 games in my time at Michigan where I knew almost every signal the whole game. 2021 MSU, 2022 MSU, 2022 PSU, 2022 OSU, 2022 TCU, 2021 Georgia, and 2021 Wisconsin. We lost 3 of those games because we didn’t tackle well, and Georgia was historically good. We won the four other games because we dominated the line of scrimmage & tackled well. Blocking, ball security, tackling, run fits & coverage tools. That’s football. This is not rocket science.”

In other words, Stalions really doesn’t believe that his actions, stealing signals from Michigan’s opponents during practice, had a profound effect on any of Michigan’s previous success. Other college football teams likely don’t agree.
