Former Ohio State golfer Neal Shipley wins his second Korn Ferry Tour title of season

Former Ohio State golfer Neal Shipley added to his celebrity status by winning his second Korn Ferry Tour event of the season.

Former Ohio State golfer Neal Shipley added to his budding celebrity status by winning The Ascendant July 13 for his second Korn Ferry Tour victory this season.

Shipley, who played two years for the Buckeyes (2023-24), birdied the final hole at the TPC Colorado course in Berthoud, 

Colorado to defeat Jorge Fernandez Valdes and Kevin Dougherty by one stroke.

Shipley, featured in season three of the Netflix golf documentary Full Swing, collected $180,000 for winning and put himself in excellent position to secure his PGA Tour card for 2026. The Pittsburgh native is projected to move to No. 4 in the Korn Ferry points standings. The top 30 players at the finish of the season receive PGA tour cards.

Shipley’s first Korn Ferry win came April 19 at the Suncoast Classic at Lakewood National Golf Club in Florida. He defeated Seungtaek Lee on the fifth hole of a sudden death playoff to collect $180,000. 

Shipley became an overnight sensation at the 2024 Masters when he made the cut, played the final round with Tiger Woods and finished as low amateur. During the awards presentation in Butler Cabin cameras caught him giving a sideway glance at a TV monitor off to the side. Shipley also finished as low amateur at the 2023 U.S. Open.
