Hosting the All-Star Game is a fantastic honor for a team, city, and fan base. For the Chicago Cubs, they haven't had such an honor since the 1990 season, 35 years ago.
But, in a recent article from Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Cubs got some great news from Major League Baseball on their bid to host an upcoming All-Star Game.
"The Chicago Cubs have been approved by Major League Baseball to host the 2027 All-Star Game," Nightengale writes, "And will make the announcement July 30 in Chicago."
To be approved by Major League Baseball to host the 2027 All-Star Game is a massive deal for the Cubs. Once 2027 rolls around, the Cubs will host an All-Star Game at Wrigley Field for the first time in 37 years.
Wrigley Field has seen a couple of All-Star games, but nothing since the turn of the century. Back in 1947 and 1962, the Cubs hosted the All-Star Game. With MLB approving the Cubs to host in 2027, Wrigley Field will see its fourth All-Star game, and the first since 1990.
After the team spent over $1 billion on renovations, the Cubs got the approval of MLB to have the All-Star Game in Chicago. It's a huge deal for the Cubs and Major League Baseball, as it sets impressive history.
When the Boston Red Sox hosted the All-Star Game at Fenway in 1999, Fenway was 87 years old. By the time 2027 comes around, Wrigley Field will be 113 years old. It'll be the first time a stadium over 100 years old will host the All-Star Game.
