Roma are in talks with Premier League club Brighton over deals for Evan Ferguson and Matt O’Riley, reports from Italy claim.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma remain interested in Danish midfielder O’Riley whilst the Corriere dello Sport are reporting that the Giallorossi are closing in on a loan move with an option-to-buy for Irish striker Ferguson.
O’Riley could leave Brighton for Roma after just one season
Brighton only signed O’Riley from Scottish side Celtic last summer, for £25 million plus up to £5 million in bonuses but the 24-year-old suffered a disappointing first season in England, marred by injury. The Dane was injured just seven minutes into his Premier League debut and made just 21 total appearances in the league for the Seagulls in 2024-25.
The reports from Italy also indicate that Brighton may be open to a loan with an obligation-to-buy and that new Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini is a big admirer of the Denmark international.
Fresh start for Ferguson in Rome
Ferguson, meanwhile, spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan with fellow Premier League outfit West Ham United. However, the striker played just 8 times in all competitions for the Hammers, failing to find the net. The Irishman has therefore scored just once in his last 21 Premier League appearances since the start of last season.
