Saturday's local baseball roundup: Bravehearts extend FCBL lead

Former Shrewsbury High star David Siciliano turned in an impressive start in New Britain on July 12, as the Bravehearts won, 2-1, to secure a doubleheader sweep.

Futures Collegiate League

Bravehearts 7, New Britain 5; Bravehearts 2, New Britain 1: David Siciliano of Shrewsbury struck out eight and didn't allow an earned run over 6⅔ innings in the second game as visiting Worcester (29-10) completed its doubleheader sweep over the Bees (17-22).

The red-hot Bravehearts, who extended their winning streak to seven games, also widened their FCBL lead to 5½ games over the second-place Vermont Lake Monsters.

Worcester took the lead with two runs in the third inning. Jaylem Sepulveda's sacrifice fly scored Evan O'Rourke, and Chris Mondesir, who advanced to third on the fly ball, stole the plate.

Former Oakmont Regional ace Caleb Allen threw 4⅔ innings of shutout relief in the opener, and Jordan Henriquez had two hits and three RBIs.

Henriquez's RBI single in the fifth broke a 5-5 tie, and Henry DiGiorgio scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.

American Legion

Leominster 8, Cherry Valley 2: Danny Nelson (2 for 3) and Cam Cirone each drove in two runs, and Alex Coco, Mark Garner and Brendan Mariani also had two hits each to pace host Post 151 (15-8, 12-6 District 4).

Leominster's Austin Gibbons and Reece Lora combined to strike out 10.

Nolan Remington went 3 for 4 with a double and RBI for Post 443 (3-13, 3-13) in its first game of the day. Teammate Lucas MacNevin was 2 for 4 with a double.

Milford 15, Cherry Valley 0: Jack Krauss had two hits, including a double, and drove in four runs, and Nick Gouveia went 3 for 4 with an RBI as visiting Post 59 (20-1, 18-0) romped in five innings at Rochdale Park.

Brayden Lewis, Keith Lee and Sean Burchard also collected two hits each for Milford. Dylan Ruff and Jordan Martorano combined on a three-hitter.

Liam Doyle had two of the three hits for Cherry Valley (3-14, 3-14).
