Leading up to July 1, there were questions about Glass' future in New Jersey. However, the Devils ended up keeping him around, and it ultimately looks like the right move for the Metropolitan Division club.
When looking at this year's UFAs, the center market was simply not strong. As a result, had the Devils not tendered him a qualifying offer and he became a UFA, he was expected to generate plenty of interest around the league. This is especially so when noting that he is still just 26 years old and a former first-round pick.
Glass also proved to be a solid fit in the Devils' roster after they acquired him from the Pittsburgh Penguins before this year's trade deadline. In 14 regular-season games with the Devils after the trade, he had two goals, seven points, and a plus-4 rating. Overall, he showed promise with New Jersey, and he should continue to be a nice part of their bottom six because of it.
Overall, there is very little risk in the Devils bringing back Glass. His cap hit is reasonable, and it is a short-term deal, with it being only two years. This signing could end up being a good value move for the Devils, so it will be fascinating to see how Glass performs during it from here.
