Another WNBA legend joins the 8K club.
Diana Taurasi is No Longer Alone in Exclusive WNBA Club originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
For years, WNBA legend Diana Taurasi sat alone as the only player to score more than 8,000 points in league history. Throughout her 20-year career, she recorded 10,646 points — still the most ever.
Taurasi retired from the WNBA after the conclusion of the 2024 season, putting an end to her legendary career that she spent with the Phoenix Mercury exclusively. Many consider her the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in women's basketball, and it's hard to see anyone stealing that honor from her anytime soon.
On Friday, however, Taurasi welcomed some company in an exclusive WNBA club. Connecticut Sun center Tina Charles joined DT as the only players to reach the 8,000-point mark, as she finished with 20 points against the Seattle Storm.
Charles entered the game with 7,990 points, needing just 10 to breach the milestone feat. While the Sun ended up losing 79-65, it was certainly an achievement worth celebrating. Charles now has 8,010 career points.
"8K FOR TC," the WNBA wrote on social media to commemorate the occasion. "Tina Charles joins Diana Taurasi as the ONLY players in WNBA history to reach 8,000 career points!"
It will certainly be interesting to see who will join Diana Taurasi and Tina Charles next. For what it's worth, only two other active players are close to entering the WNBA's 8K club.
Former Indiana Fever forward and current Phoenix Mercury star DeWanna Bonner is currently No. 3 on the all-time scoring list with 7,553 points. Storm star Nneka Ogwumike, meanwhile, is No. 7 on the list with 6,858 points. No other active player is in the top 10 of that list.
