The Washington Mystics lost to the New York Liberty on Thursday night, 89-63. The loss drops Washington to 16-23 while the Liberty improve to 24-15.

The Mystics did finish the first quarter ahead with a 20-18. However, the tables were flipped on them for the rest of the game, with the Liberty dominating in three point shooting and rebounds. While Washington wasn’t too careless with the ball with 12 total turnovers, when they tun into 24 points for New York, then that’s just going to be hard to come back from.

Emma Meesseman led the Liberty with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. She also had no turnovers. Sure, Isabelle Harrison scored one more point than Meesseman, but Emma had a bigger impact than nearly the rest of the Liberty in this game. Breanna Stewart had 12 points and 9 rebounds. Marnie Johannes added 14 points.

For Washington, in a rebuilding season, it’s a good thing to see that Sonia Citron led with 18 points with Kiki Iriafen added 16 more. Both also shot at least 50 percent from the field.

Washington’s next game is on Saturday when they travel to San Francisco to face the Golden State Valkyries. Tip off is at 8:30 p.m. ET.
