OKC Thunder announce coach changes with G League's OKC Blue, assistant staff

The Oklahoma City Thunder have reshuffled their coaching staff as we sit a little over a month away from training camp. The NBA champions announced a pair of coach moves on Thursday.

Thunder assistant Daniel Dixon will be the new G League's OKC Blue head coach. Meanwhile, Kam Woods returns to the Thunder's coaching staff under head coach Mark Daigneault for the 2025-26 regular season.

Dixon has been with the Thunder for three seasons. His first two years were as a Blue assistant. He spent last season as a Thunder assistant. He spent two consecutive years as the Summer League head coach in 2024-25, once in Utah and the other time in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, Woods has spent seven seasons with the Thunder as a coach. He spent two years as a Blue assistant and two years as a Thunder assistant. He was the Blue head coach for the last three seasons. He led the G League squad to a championship in 2024. He's also spent time as a Summer League head coach.

As most know, the Thunder go all out in utilizing the Blue. The NBA team shares Paycom Center with the G League affiliate. That allows players to be seamlessly recalled and assigned to the program. The Blue also serves as a developmental spot for their coaches.

Daigneault spent five years as the Blue's head coach from 2014-19. That's where he did most of his learning before he was eventually promoted to the Thunder head coach in 2020. It'll be interesting to see how Dixon takes advantage of the opportunity this upcoming season.
