Notre Dame cornerback Dallas Golden, listed as the backup to superstar Leonard Moore, is on the Shaun Alexander FOTY Award watch list.
Notre Dame cornerback Dallas Golden made the watch list for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, the Irish announced Tuesday.
Golden was the No. 108 player and No. 15 cornerback in the Rivals Industry Ranking out of Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep. He will serve as superstar sophomore cornerback Leonard Moore‘s primary backup on the boundary, according to the team’s official depth chart.
Golden also practiced as a punt returner during fall camp, and while he is not likely to open the season in that role, it’s something he could do later this year or down the line in his career. Golden was one of the more electric two-way high school players in the nation with the Buccaneers.
The Irish secured Golden’s commitment on April 28, 2024 and fended off several Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference powerhouses to sign him. That includes Miami, whom the Irish face at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
Notre Dame Tweets of the day
Always a compelling interview when Irish head coach Marcus Freemanjoins The Pivot.
Freeman has never opened a season at home, but in a sense, he likes it that way.
Game. Week.
Quote of the day
“You want him to make good decisions. Every play can’t be a touchdown. Every play can’t be a bomb. Trust the game plan. Trust what you see. Be who you are and win this play. I don’t want to put a numerical expectation on him. Be the best version of CJ Carr. Make those guys around you better. Something that he does really well.
“He raises the play of those guys around him through his words, his actions and his competitive spirit. Be that guy. And at the end of the day, win this play. Not the last one. Just win this one right in front of you.”
