Army announces planned alcohol sales at football games this fall

The Army Black Knights have approved the sale of alcoholic beverages at their football games this fall, the program announced on Tuesday afternoon. Sales will begin with the season opener against Tarleton State on Friday.

Army is just the latest to join the trend of allowing alcohol sales at games. Dozens of other programs around the country have already taken to the practice, while some conferences have even begun to allow it for league title games.

“The opportunity to purchase alcohol has become common practice at college athletic venues across the country, and we’re pleased to introduce it here at West Point as part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the gameday experience,” said Tom Theodorakis, Army West Point Director of Athletics, in a press release.

“Prioritizing the fan experience is a core pillar of our Fruits of Victory strategic plan, and this initiative is one of several designed to improve the atmosphere and overall enjoyment for those who support the Black Knights at Michie Stadium. At the same time, we remain fully committed to ensuring a safe, family-friendly environment for all fans.”

In an effort to curb over-consumption, alcohol sales will be limited to two drinks per transaction, the program announced. Fans can purchase beer and ready-to-drink cocktails in the stadium.

The revenue generated from the alcohol sales will support the Army West Point Athletic Association’s mission of providing an extraordinary athletic experience for the cadet-athletes who compete across all 30 teams, the release noted.

The 2024 American Conference Champions Army Black Knights of West Point open up their 2025 campaign at historic Michie Stadium as they host Tarleton State (1-0) Friday evening.
