Arsenal have officially confirmed the signing of midfielder Christian Norgaard from Brentford.
The 31-year-old midfielder joins the Gunners in a deal worth an initial £10 million plus £2 million in add-ons.
Norgaard arrives at the Emirates Stadium following a highly successful six-year spell at Brentford, where he made 196 appearances across all competitions, including 122 in the Premier League.
Known for his leadership qualities and physical presence, the Denmark international is expected to bring experience and stability to Arsenal’s midfield, especially after the departures of Jorginho and Thomas Partey earlier this summer.
Norgaard is looking forward to playing in the Champions League after revealing that he had already given up any hopes of featuring in Europe’s premier club competition.
“I’ve just turned 31 and had signed a new deal with Brentford,” he told Arsenal.com.
“Of course, there’s always a little chance that a miracle could happen with Brentford, but it was probably unrealistic to play Champions League with them.
“Now, I get to hear the anthem and be a part of a Champions League campaign. It’s a childhood dream and something I didn’t think would be possible. So it’s something I’m really, really happy about.”
Joining Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi, Norgaard is Arsenal’s third signing of the summer window, and the Gunners are working on further additions.
They are currently in negotiations with Chelsea over a deal for Noni Madueke and remain keen on bringing in a striker despite their pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres reportedly being in danger of collapsing.
