Caitlin Clark didn't sugarcoat her words.

Caitlin Clark returned from a five-game absence and started for the Indiana Fever against the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the new WNBA franchise spoiled her injury comeback.

Clark — who last played on June 24 after sustaining a groin issue — finished with just 10 points, five rebounds and six assists, along with four turnovers, as the Fever fell to the Valkyries, 80-61.

Indiana struggled mightily on offense, with Clark and only two others scoring in double figures. Kelsey Mitchell led the team in scoring with 12 points, while Makayla Timpson finished with 10.

As a team, the Fever shot just 30.9% from the field and 22.2% from deep. They were also outrebounded 47-36, with the Indiana starters in particular losing the battle on the glass 31-17.

After the game, Clark was naturally disappointed by the loss. However, she admitted that they have no one to blame but themselves, highlighting that "nobody played well today."

"I thought we played with energy in the first five minutes, and then when they kind of went on their first run, it deflated us a little bit, which I'm not really sure why," Clark said in her postgame press conference, per Indy Star.

"But the offense, I think for us, it starts on defense, and we struggled scouting report wise, we struggled personnel. We struggled to do what the coaches asked of us. And then overall, they just played with more energy and effort. Those are the things that just can't happen. It's every single person on our team."

Sure enough, Clark's message should serve as a wake-up call for the Fever. They dropped to 9-10 on the season with the defeat, and while they remain the seventh seed in the standings, they can't be too complacent.

The Fever are tied with the Washington Mystics and Las Vegas Aces record-wise, and are just three games ahead of the 10th-seeded Chicago Sky. That means they could find themselves out of the playoff picture if they don't play at a high level consistently.
