College football season is underway, and while fans have their own opinions, what does the data say about the dirtiest teams.
The Action Network ranked more than 130 teams based on penalties per game, penalty yards per game, penalty first downs per game, and penalties per play. Each team was given an overall score from 0 to 100 with higher scores meaning dirtier teams. Here's what we found regarding Georgia teams:
What is the dirtiest college football team in Georgia?
Of the Georgia teams included on the list, the Georgia State Panthers in Atlanta ranked the dirtiest with an overall score of 56.72. However, compared to other teams across the nation, the Panthers aren't nearly the worst as they are only No. 59 on the list.
In second place is the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets scoring 47.76 overall and ranking No. 71 on the list. The Yellow Jackets hail from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.
What is the cleanest college football team in Georgia?
The Georgia team with the cleanest record is the Georgia Bulldogs from University of Georgia in Athens. They had an overall score of 13.43 and ranked 18th cleanest on the list.
In second place is the Georgia Southern Eagles from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. They had an overall score of 22.39 and ranked 30th cleanest on the list.
