The Phoenix Suns have been one of the most active teams during this offseason period. Their first significant move came the day after the conclusion of the regular season when they informed Mike Budenholzer that he was fired from the head coaching position. The move shocked some, as the Suns had just signed him to a five-year, $50 million deal the previous summer and will now have to pay him the remaining $40 million.
Owner Mat Ishbia then made a massive move in the front office, moving James Jones into an advisory position to install Brian Gregory as the general manager. Gregory got right to work, executing a now-historic trade that sent Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 selection in the 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-round picks.

Some speculated that the Suns would continue to make monumental changes and explore the possibility of trading Devin Booker. However, based on the moves that Gregory made during the NBA Draft, specifically the trade to acquire center Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets, it became clear Ishbia plans to compete next season.
It appears that Booker will be in Phoenix for the foreseeable future, following the announcement that he has signed a two-year, $145 million maximum extension with the Suns.

Booker averaged 25.6 points per game with the Suns last season, and a career-high 7.1 assists per game. While the Suns brought in Tyus Jones last season to be the primary ball-handler, the offense proved to be most effective when running through Booker.
The Suns have a logjam at the shooting guard position after the trade for Green and Brooks. Still, Booker will likely continue to serve as the main facilitator, leaving Green and Brooks to play as the traditional shooting guard and small forward positions.
