The Oklahoma City Thunder just won the 2024-25 NBA championship. Now, they are making sure the core that helped make it happen will be with the team long term.

After locking up Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to a four-year, $285 million extension last week, the Thunder have now committed another $200 million-plus contract to big man Chet Holmgren.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Holmgren and the Thunder have "agreed to a fully guaranteed five-year maximum rookie contract extension that could reach $250 million."

While Holmgren played just 32 games last campaign — averaging 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.2 blocks — he showed up in the most important game of the year when needed.

In Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers, Holmgren recorded 18 points, eight rebounds and five blocks to help lead the Thunder to the 103-91 victory and the title.

After news of Chet Holmgren's deal with the Thunder surfaced, former NBA champion Kevin Love was quick to comment on it.

"Deserved. Happy for my guy!!" Love wrote on ESPN's Instagram post about the Holmgren deal.

While there were others who thought the Thunder overpaid for Holmgren, several fans were quick to congratulate him just like Love and expressed belief that the 23-year-old big man earned the contract.

"He was major for them in this playoff run!" an IG commenter wrote. Another one said on X, "Another W for Chet."

"Congrats Chet! J dub up next!" a fan added.

A supporter remarked, "Worth it. he’s is what the future of centers look like: hits 3s, block shots, protect the pain, rebounds, can cover a post up big, can switch into a guard, can finish, can pass, grab a rebound and go."

"OKC got Shai, Chet, and JDub locked in. They’re the next dynasty and there’s nothing we can do about it," an excited social media user stated.
