Proposed Philadelphia Phillies trade moves Bryce Harper to the outfield and shifts Alec Bohm to first base, reshaping the lineup.
Phillies Trade Idea Moves Bryce Harper to Outfield, Puts Alec Bohm at First Base originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
How far are the Philadelphia Phillies willing to go at the trade deadline? If the Phillies want to go all in, there could be a scenario where almost nothing is off the table.
When recently examining the Phillies' options at the deadline, On Pattison raised an intriguing idea.
They noted that the Phillies could move on from Alec Bohm in a deal for Eugenio Suarez, or try to trade him to a team that doesn't land Suarez at the deadline.
If the Phillies were to bring Suarez back for a player not named Bohm, they noted that Bryce Harper could return to the outfield and have Bohm play first base.
“One way the Phillies could offset the prospect capital it would take to acquire Suárez would either be to include Bohm in a trade with the Diamondbacks directly, or shop him to the teams that miss out on Suárez. By all accounts, the Phillies got a little carried away in their asking price for Bohm last winter, with Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic noting in December that the Phillies had asked the A's for star closer Mason Miller in return for the third baseman...
“Alternatively, the Phillies could shift Bohm across the diamond from third to first base for the rest of this season. That would mean Bryce Harper would return to the outfield for a few months, which he's expressed a willingness to do in the right situation. However, Dombrowski has always seemed hesitant to move Harper back to the outfield,” they wrote.
The Phillies have been on record stating that they don't want to put Harper back in the outfield unless they have to.
If it's only for half a season, it could make sense.
Ultimately, the Phillies must do whatever they need to keep Harper healthy. They should be trusted if that isn’t in the outfield for now.
