The Minnesota Twins have been going through their fair share of injuries as the season gets closer to the All-Star break.
With pitchers Pablo Lopez, Bailey Ober, and Zebby Matthews, as well as infielders Luke Keaschall and Ryan Fitzgerald, all currently serving time on the injured list, All-Star Byron Buxton could be on the verge of joining them.
In the first inning of the Twins' matchup against the Chicago Cubs, Buxton was checking his swing on a pitch from pitcher Cade Horton when the 98 MPH fastball hit off the the All-Star's hand.

Buxton would stay in the came until the second inning, when the Twins decided to remove him in the lineup and was replaced by Brooks Lee.
Luckily, The Athletic's Dan Hayes reported that after getting X-rays on the hand, they came back negative and Buxton will be considered day-to-day until further notice.

It's another unfortunate injury for Buxton, as the star center fielder has also missed games this season due to a concussion after colliding with shortstop Carlos Correa back on May 15.
The status on Buxton will be uncertain for the MLB All-Star Game as well as the Home Run Derby he was expected to play in next week.
Minnesota can't catch a break in recent weeks when it comes to injuries, and the Twins need all the help they can get while being behind by four games in the AL Wild Card picture.
Buxton has been one of the more reliable players in the Twins' lineup this season, leading the team with a .270 batting average, along with having a .335 on base percentage, .544 slugging percentage, .879 OPS, hitting 20 home runs, 53 RBI. and stealing 20 bases.
