The Knights move to 1-0-2 on the year
Rutgers Women’s soccer played two matches over the weekend, one on the road against Princeton and one at home against Air Force. The Scarlet Knights were evenly matched against both teams, with the weekend ending in two draws.
Rutgers’ first match of the weekend came against the Tigers, where the score ended 1-1. Princeton would have a huge advantage in shots on goal, as they outshot the Knights 21-7. Rutgers goaltender Olivia Bodmer stole the show as she turned aside 8 shots on goal, one of which was a penalty shot, which she blocked. Princeton would break open the scoring in the 76th minute by sliding the ball to the right corner of the net. The Knights would respond in kind four minutes later as Kennedi Cotter would land a penalty shot for her first collegiate goal. The game would remain tied from there, with both teams putting pressure on the goaltenders but having no luck breaking through.
The story for the Knights’ game against the Falcons was a little different, with the same result. Instead of one side having many more shots on goal, the game was fairly even, with Rutgers landing 12 shots and Air Force landing 11. Allie Post landed three shots on goal, the most of any Knight during the contest, while Bodmer secured her 18th career shutout. On the flip side, Rutgers was also shut out, leading to the 0-0 draw.
The Knights’ next game will be at home next Sunday at 1 pm against UConn.
