Early in the offseason, NBA rumors were flying heavy about a potential Giannis Antetokounmpo trade. A big reason for the two-time NBA MVP’s uncertain future in Milwaukee was due to Damian Lillard’s expected absence for the full season.

However, the Bucks have since bought Lillard out of his contract and replaced him with Myles Turner. That acquisition has quieted the Giannis trade rumors, but not everyone has given up on the idea.

Now, a new “realistic” Antetokounmpo trade idea has emerged from Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale. His idea was for the Suprs to send newly drafted No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper, Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, three firsts, and two second-round picks in exchange for the Greek Freak.

While the idea of trading the face of a franchise like Antetokounmpo is always hard to stomach, the Spurs can actually put together a respectable offer, led by Harper. While the other moving parts may not be star talents, Harper could develop into the Bucks’ next franchise cornerstone.

“Milwaukee and San Antonio can quibble over finer details. Should Stephon Castle be included over Harper? Would the Spurs consider trading both if it saves them first-round equity? Should the Bucks push for Devin Vassell over Barnes or Johnson?

Giannis-to-San Antonio permutations exist in droves. Getting him there is all that matters. A baseline trio of Giannis, Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox with some combination of Harper, Castle and Vassell still on board is equal parts terrifying and championship-caliber.”

It’s hard to envision the Bucks trading Antetokounmpo after making the bold and aggressive move to waive Lillard and sign Turner to a contract worth over $100 million. That’s a move that screams an attempt to win now, not one that signals a rebuild is near.
