The San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers meet again this weekend, after playing each other just five days ago. Except, instead of it being at Dodger Stadium, it's at Petco Park this weekend.

Last weekend, the Padres traveled to Dodger Stadium with a one game lead over the Dodgers in the division. This weekend, the roles are reversed. The Dodgers will arrive to Petco Park with a one game lead over the Padres in the NL West.

Friday night's series opener will feature two starters who have experience pitching for their opponents. Padres' starter Yu Darvish pitched for the Dodgers during their 2017 World Series run, and Dodgers' starter Blake Snell spent three years with the Padres from 2021-2023.

Blake Snell Makes First Return to Petco Park

Snell had a strong tenure with the Padres, averaging a 3.27 ERA and a WHIP just over one during his three seasons. In 2023, he led the major leagues with his 2.23 ERA and earned his second Cy Young award.

Now, the Dodgers' starter will return to Petco Park for the first time since his Cy Young season with the Padres, and he'll do so riding an impressive streak.

Snell has thrown 12 consecutive scoreless innings and two straight scoreless starts. If the former Cy Young winner can throw a scoreless outing on Friday night, he'll match the longest such streak of his career dating back to 2023 when he did it on three separate occasions with the Padres.

Snell's first scoreless start was against the Padres last weekend, and if he could match a career-best and do so against his former team again, it would make it extra special.

The Dodger's starter has been lights out since he came off the injured list, holding a 1.80 ERA through his five starts. His counterpart, Darvish, has struggled since returning from injury. Darvish has a 5.79 ERA through his eight starts.

Last weekend, the Dodgers were able to score four runs against Darvish in four innings the day after Snell threw six shutout innings against the Padres. Now, the two will square off against each other to kickoff this weekend's series.
