Jules Kounde was the most recent Barcelona player to renew his contract at the club after a successful period under Hansi Flick.

The former Sevilla centre-back penned a new deal which expires in 2030, essentially solidifying his long-term future at the club.

Almost a week after renewing his contract, Kounde has posted a message to Barcelona on social media, affirming his commitment to the club.

Kounde’s message to Barcelona

In a social media post on Instagram, Kounde posted a picture of himself wearing a neat outfit and holding the Barcelona shirt.

“Very proud to extend my contract until 2030. Extremely grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity to continue wearing this jersey,” he wrote in the caption.

The Frenchman went on to thank the supporters for their affection and vowed to create history at the club.

“Thank you Cules for your support and affection. Let’s continue making history together,” he added.

The contract extension of Kounde was an important strategic move by Barcelona, who have managed to tie almost all of their star players down to a long-term contracts.

Next on the list could be Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia, with both players currently in talks with Barça over a renewal.

Barcelona are also expected to renew the contracts of Marc Bernal, Inaki Pena and perhaps even Andreas Christensen, though Pena will leave the club on loan this summer.

From a sporting perspective, Kounde is expected to remain as Barcelona’s first-choice right-back this season, though he will face stiff competition from Eric Garcia, who is currently in the form of his life.

Garcia, in fact, started ahead of Kounde in the opening game against Mallorca. Whether or not that trend continues heading into the Levante game this weekend remains to be seen.
