Bayern Munich is set for its Bundesliga opener…
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is ready to get rolling in the Bundesliga opener on Friday vs. RB Leipzig.
For Kompany, RB Leipzig presents a big challenge.
“There’s more variability. They have a new coach and a lot of new structures. They’ve signed some talent and have a strong squad. Last season, things didn’t go quite well for them. Leipzig is certainly one of the contenders. We have to take the game very seriously. They have the wingers who can handle 1v1 situations, plus number 10s like Xavi Simons. They’re strong going forward. But we’re playing at the Allianz Arena and want to put on a good performance for the fans,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Bayern Munich saw Harry Kane and Konrad Laimer held out of training earlier this week, but both should be good to face RB Leipzig per Kompany.
“There are no major changes at the moment. The guys who played against Stuttgart are probably all available. We’re one week further into our preparation and are one step further. We hope we can put in a good performance tomorrow as well,” said Kompany. “When you have a short preparation period, it’s normal to have some cramps. It was a final against a strong opponent. But we’re mentally ready, which is important; the hunger is there. It’s about getting better; the motivation is high.”
As for Aleksandar Pavlović, it does not look like the young midfielder is ready to start just yet.
“He’s trained well. Of course, he hasn’t played a game yet, but I believe it won’t be long before he’ll be back,” Kompany said.
Shortly after Kompany’s press conference, it was also announced that Tom Bischof is out due to appendix surgery.
Bayern Munich will kick off its Bundesliga season against RB Leipzig in what should be a fun start to the league season.
The Bavarians are seeking to defend their status as reigning champions, while RB Leipzig is going to look to build a great base of talent into a cohesive team — something that has not always proven to be the easiest task in East Germany.
