Cédric Bakambu could have signed with Santos, Neymar's club, this summer. Here’s why it didn’t happen.
Last weekend, Santos and Neymar suffered a humiliating 0-6 defeat to Vasco da Gama. Without delay, the Brazilian club decided to sack their coach, Cléber Xavier. To fill the vacancy, Neymar’s club considered the renowned Jorge Sampaoli.
However, according to Globo, the Paulista management ruled out this option. The reason is a familiar one with Sampaoli: Santos was unwilling to agree to the numerous signings the Argentine coach demanded to take charge of the team. Sampaoli had also put Cédric Bakambu on his list of transfer targets. Financially restricted, the Brazilian club concluded it was impossible to bring in the players the former Rennes manager wanted.
