Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has dismissed speculation over a possible departure of Argentine midfielder Exequiel Palacios.

"I've read it [the rumours] too, but nothing beyond that. There have been no discussions, neither with the agent nor the player," Rolfes said on the sidelines of an event hosted by the Rheinische Post newspaper on Wednesday evening.

"We want to keep Pala and that's our clear position," he added.

Palacios, 26, is under contract with the Werkself until 2028.

Leverkusen have already lost a number of key players this summer, including Florian Wirtz, Lukas Hradecky, Granit Xhaka, Jonathan Tah, and Jeremie Frimpong. Forward Victor Boniface is reportedly close to a move to AC Milan.

Rolfes said the team is likely to see a few more changes.
