Cunningham suffered a knee injury on Sunday...
Lexie Hull Reacts to Sophie Cunningham's Statement After Fever-Sun Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Sophie Cunningham has put together a strong August, earning a starting spot over Lexie Hull while Caitlin Clark remains sidelined with an injury. But during the Fever's 99-93 overtime win against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday, Cunningham was forced to leave the game in the second quarter with a knee injury.
Now, the Fever, who are already dealing with injuries to guards Clark, Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson, hope Cunningham’s injury isn’t serious. Still, while Cunningham awaits test results, she is sharing positive updates on social media.
Hull Reacts to Cunningham's New Post
Following the win, Cunningham took to Instagram to reflect on her strong month, noting that August had been “greater than” the others. Her post featured a collection of photos and videos of herself in Fever gear. One of them showed Cunningham and Lexie Hull in their matching pregame outfits from the Aug. 7 loss to the Mercury, her former team.
"august>," Cunningham captioned her post.
Hull was quick to respond to her teammate, leaving two comments on Cunningham's post.
"you >," Hull commented. "👅👅👅"
Other Indiana players, such as Aliyah Boston, Chloe Bibby and Natasha Howard also had a response to Cunningham's post.
Looking at Cunningham's August
Cunningham had one of the best stretches of her seven-year WNBA career to begin August. Excluding Sunday's loss where she played only 10 minutes, Cunningham is averaging 12.4 points on 54.7% shooting, 2.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game this month.
This marks a significant increase from her season averages of 8.6 points and 1.2 assists.
Cunningham also introduced her new podcast, "Show Me Something with Sophie Cunningham & West Wilson," on July 30. She has released three episodes in total, including two this month, amassing nearly 500,000 total views on YouTube alone.
The Fever will have a few days off before their next game on Friday, taking on the league-leading Minnesota Lynx at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
