One of the buzziest guys of Oklahoma football summer camp has been sophomore cornerback Devon Jordan. The Tulsa Union product was a player that really climbed the charts from his junior to senior year for the Redhawks.
But his meteoric rise from something of an unknown to a potential starter is not surprising to some of his former coaches.
“He’s a special football player. Honestly I’m not shocked,” one long-time Union staffer said. “His shift as a senior was one of the best I’ve seen. He got up and spoke at our senior retreat and it shook the room.
“That’s when we knew it flipped on [for Jordan].”
Sooners Have a Connection with New Offer
As was mentioned earlier this week Oklahoma football has a bit of an inside track with one recent offer, Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley Northwest receiver Baron Marshall. The talented pass catcher already has a serious offer list but the Sooners seem to have one early edge.
It will be determined how much it means but his friendship with Sooners kicker commitment, and current Huskies teammate, Trace Rudd.
Rudd might be dismissed as a kicker but as a player who is planning to get to every Sooners home game this year he could have a meaningful role in helping the Sooners host the 6-foot-3, 175-pound receiver.
But it’s not just that they are teammates and that Marshall might catch a ride or two, they actually have a unique connection. As Rudd’s family is close with Marshall.
“I’ve known him since he was in fourth grade,” Rudd said acknowledging his family is close with Marshall.
Rudd knows that there’s a lot in front of him but he is obviously hopeful the Sooners can be home. Marshall makes the third player in four classes from Northwest that the Sooners have offered following Rudd and Andrew Babalola in 2025.
“He has a ton of offers already but I am pulling for OU to be home,” he explained.
Nebraska seems an early favorite after several trips to Lincoln but the Sooners have a chance.
OU Set to Host Former Commitment for Big Weekend
There’s no question that when the Sooners play host to Michigan there will be a number of elite prospects on hand. But one name that has long been connected with Oklahoma football is Denton (Texas) Guyer defensive end Zane Rowe. The one-time Sooners pledge hasn’t been as frequent a guest in Norman as of late. But he’ll be making his return in just a few weeks.
That’s right, Rowe is yet another visitor scheduled for Michigan. The Sooners are now at 14 prospects expected in Norman for the Big 10-SEC battle.
