According to multiple reports, Indiana star Caitlin Clark suffered a second injury while rehabbing a groin injury that has kept her out.
As Caitlin Clark continues to rehab a groin injury that has kept her off the court for an extended period of time she is now dealing with a second injury. She is nursing a bone bruise in her left ankle, according to multiple reports.
Scott Agnes of FieldHouseFiles.com first reported on the injury, which occurred on Aug. 7 in Phoenix. Clark was toward the end of a workout when she injured her left ankle.
According to Chloe Peterson of The Indianapolis Star, Caitlin Clark’s ankle injury is “very mild.” The injury apparently does not impact her return timeline, as Clark would still be out rehabbing the groin currently.
Still, it’s another setback in a year that has had plenty of them. Clark has played in just 13 games.
“Until she can get into practice, and until you guys see her in practice, it’s really status quo, same as same as we have been,” coach Stephanie White said, per Peterson.
Caitlin Clark has been out with the groin injury since July 15. On Sunday, White provided an update on Clark’s recovery when asked if the two-time WNBA All-Star will return before the end of the regular season.
“That’s the hope. The hope is that she’s back,” White said, per ESPN.
It’s been a roller coaster season without Caitlin Clark leading the way. The Fever have looked competent without their leader at times, only to appear clueless the very next game.
From late July to early August, the Fever won five consecutive games and seemed to finally be finding their rhythm. However, that sentiment quickly fell apart when Indiana lost four of its next five contests.
And other injuries have piled up alongside Caitlin Clark’s. Sophie Cunningham was recently lost for the season to an MCL injury in her knee. Meanwhile, Sydney Coulson suffered a torn ACL in her left knee and Aari McDonald suffered a broken bone in her right foot.
Despite that, the Indiana Fever have remained competitive. The team is third in the Eastern Conference with a 19-16 overall record. Nine games remain in the regular season.
