If you have two quarterbacks, you have none, or you’re Missouri.

ESPN’s Chris Low reports that Beau Pribula and Sam Horn will play in Missouri’s season opener against Central Arkansas. Drinkwitz wants the competition to continue into the regular season so he can evaluate how both play in a game setting.

Pribula was the presumed starter. After all, the former Penn State backup left his team ahead of their College Football Playoff run to find a transfer portal destination before all of the best real estate was gobbled up. Pribula appeared in 12 games last fall, primarily as a running option, and guided Penn State to a win at Wisconsin after Drew Allar went down with an injury.

Horn was a four-star talent when he signed with Missouri in the 2022 recruiting class. He’s played sparingly, biding his time behind Brady Cook.

Does it really matter how many Missouri quarterbacks play against Central Arkansas? It shouldn’t. However, today’s news does mean something for Kentucky football fans. Mark Stoops is the last SEC head coach to reveal who will be the game one starting quarterback.

Similar to Pribula, for almost the entire offseason, Zach Calzada was the presumed starter. Cutter Boley‘s improved play has added a wrinkle to the situation, with Bush Hamdan saying on Tuesday that the redshirt freshman is “pushing the needle on this in a big way.” The Kentucky offensive coordinator does not intend to rotate quarterbacks throughout the 2025 campaign.

“I think we’re in a situation where you need to get one guy as comfortable as you can get with who he’s playing with. And I’m going to keep saying it: We feel very confident in both of those guys doing a nice job,” said Hamdan.

Auburn Could Play Three Quarterbacks

There’s a saying about two quarterbacks, but what if you have three?

Auburn has been a circus all summer long. Even though former Oklahoma Sooner Jackson Arnold attended SEC Media Days as the presumed starter, Hugh Freeze has not given him a major vote of confidence. The Auburn head coach was asked during his call-in show if all three quarterbacks, true freshman Deuce Knight and Stanford transfer Ashton Daniels, could play against Baylor.

“Yes,” responded Freeze. He didn’t provide too many details, but complimented both of the presumed backups.

You know what we need? Freeze to pull a Bobby Petrino. People forget that in 2015 against Auburn, of all teams, he dialed up a trick play with Lamar Jackson and Reggie Bonnafon both lined up to take the opening snap. Auburn was so tricked that they picked off Jackson’s pass.
