Fever dealt unfortunate news.

The Indiana Fever opened another game without their star guard, Caitlin Clark, who is still recovering from a groin injury. Her absence was felt in the first quarter against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday, which ended 11–24 in favor of the Sun.

Shortly after the start of second quarter, Sophie Cunningham went down following a struggle and had to be helped off the court.

"Sophie Cunningham just went down clutching her right knee, after Bria Hartley fell into it. The team surrounded her and she is now being assisted off the floor." Alexa Philippou of ESPN wrote on X.

Cunningham was replaced by Odyssey Sims. After she was ruled out for the rest of the game, Lexie Hull started the second half in place of her.

In a season when Indiana's injury woes seem unending, this setback further thins the roster and adds pressure on the team. They sit third in the standings with a record of 18–16.

Earlier, before the game, coach Stephanie White dropped a doubtful statement involving Clark.

"Asked whether she anticipates Caitlin Clark will be back by the end of the regular season, Stephanie White says 'that’s the hope.'" Philippou wrote on X. Her response did not instill confidence in the fans regarding Clark's injury.

That, combined with Cunningham's injury, casts doubt over the remainder of the Fever's season.
