Kevin Harvick watched as Austin Dillon gained some redemption via a win at Richmond Raceway this past weekend. The former NASCAR Cup Series champion was impressed with the No. 3 Chevrolet team in Virginia.

Harvick believes it was a tremendous performance, with all their cards pushed to the center of the table. Dillon came through, and Richmond delivered an awesome product. He wants to see more from the Richard Childress Racing team moving forward now.

“It really reminded me of the rain-tire situation, when everybody was all over the freaking racetrack. Kudos to Goodyear for their tire and the things that they did this weekend, with all the fall-off and the wear. That made for a better Richmond race. I think that the thing that didn’t change was the speed that that No. 3 car had,” Harvick stated, via Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.

“Austin Dillon, he had that really low line coming off a Turn 4, didn’t even go to the wall down the front straight-away. Kind of had that little diamond in the middle of the corner, and that worked for him. He talked about finding that line and being able to go to the simulator and replicate that. But the thing that I will say about RCR, the No. 3 group has had a good three weeks.

“Richard Boswell coming in there as the crew chief, very intense. Austin talked about a conversation that they had to have, a little sit-down conversation about who they were, what they were doing, things that they needed to change. They’ve got some results from that, for the last three weeks.

“The one thing I will tell you, my time at RCR, I don’t ever remember going to Richmond, no matter how the year was going, and not thinking that one of our cars couldn’t win the race. Myself and Bowyer won a lot of races there. We never went there, whether it was RCR or KHI, thinking that we were going to not win an Xfinity race. And it was the same way in the Cup car.”

All told, Richmond has always been a great track for RCR, and Austin Dillon proved Kevin Harvick’s hypothesis right. Now, the question becomes how far the No. 3 team can ride this momentum in 2025.

A deep playoff run isn’t on anyone’s mind, but who knows what they can accomplish after this past weekend. They certainly gained some respect in the garage with their win.
